7 Layer Jello

Last one for today,

My mom has been making this dish called 7 layer jello for as long as I could remember. I was wanting jello so I bought two boxes last weekend and made it this evening at Schatzi's apartment. These are the ingredients (Schatzi got me the other two items). I also used boiling water.
When my mom would make 7 layer jello she would have me divide the flavored jello in half. So here is what I started off with. The left bowl has the mango packet and the right has the raspberry.
After mixing the Knox into each I poured the mango into a glass and marked the half point and poured the other half back into the bowl. (The recipe calls for four boxes, but I only got two. Yes, knowingly.)
Before mixing the jello packet with boiling water I made the milk mixture! Look at that sweet thick yumminess!
So the most difficult part of this whole process would be the timing. I obviously had a few issues when it came to timing. I let the first layer, raspberry, sit in the fridge for a bit. I jiggled it a bit and it seemed fine. That's what I thought till I got a little too ambitious with the milk layer. Oopies, but at least it was just the second layer.
I repeated my steps, without the mess up. Once the jello was nice and settled I used a knife and a ruler to make somewhat even cubes.

Voila! Schatzi wanted me to post a picture of the jello from the side. Sorry it's not straight (I had already cut the jello lol). There's the final result! I'll let you know how they are in the comment section.

Night everyone!

T.G.I.F.

Evening everyone,

I can't believe it is 4 til 9 pm. Feels like it is at least 10. Could always be my odd hours of sleep accompanied with a few other things. To follow up the previous blog post, Saturday Bob and I decided to go out for dinner. She was craving ribs and mashed potatoes from T.G.I.F. so I said why not let's go! During the day I did some homework and Schatzi helped me deal with my laundry. Bob has issues when it comes to talking to people so I had her make the call for the dinner reservation. We got there a bit early, but they still seated us. You know how I usually order off the children's menu? Randomly Bob asked our waiter for a children's menu. I thought she was getting it for me, but she wanted to color! I should have known better by now!

I was going to order chicken tenders, but I am even picky when it comes to chicken tenders! So I decided to be outgoing and order off the big kid's menu! Ordered some sort of bruschetta with Parmesan cheese and a balsamic glaze sauce. Bob got her rack of BBQ ribs with fries. Then we both got mashed potatoes (got mine with bacon though).

She didn't lie when she said the mashed potatoes were good, but I got tired of them. Probably because I inhaled my food so quickly. There's what was left! Great meal break from the dinning halls on campus. I will say I can make better bruschetta though. Not gona lie :P

I'd be down to go back. Till then Bob said I need to learn how to make their mashed potatoes.

Torrey Pines Reserve

Hi guys!

You all know how I blog late about events. So last weekend Bob and I went to Torrey Pines Reserve. Well technically it was Friday after class. Bob looked up how to bus to our hiking destination (this should be the first clue as to what's to come). After class we changed, packed our bags, and off to the bus stop! Normally we go to the bus stop near Price Center, but this time we were taking a different bus so we waited near ERC. Waited a good 20 minutes. You would think we were bored, but Bob decided to bark at cars while I did calf raises! Gota sneak in those little workouts right? Towards the end of our bus ride, Bob pulled the string. Turns out we were a number of stops too early. Not surprising right? We ended up walking a ways before we got to an intersection. Bob used her iPhone as a map and said we should cross maybe. We were going to cross then she said maybe this isn't it so we starting walking again. Then she said we should go back and cross! We ended up crossing and turns out it was the right street. That's the road/path leading to the real trails. Doesn't it look peaceful?

Here are some of the signs we came across . . .

Map of the trails (pictures are each 1/3 of the actual map)

On campus there are hydration stations for us to refill our water bottles right? Look! We found one at the reserve. It is WAY faster than the ones at school. Before we found the water refill station I kept telling Bob how I had to pee. Luckily I didn't listen to what Bob kept saying. She kept telling me to pee in a bush on the side of the path and she would watch out for me. We went potty and were off again.
When I saw these rocks I immediately thought of the "rocks" near Disneyland's Splash Mountain ride. Funny thing is that Bob and I were walking from the other way and she stopped to take a picture of the view that would be to the right of this picture but I kept walking. Then I saw this and Bob was like woooah!

The sad thing about the trail we took is that it is shorter than the walk to my Chemistry class last quarter. We found a bench and looked out at the ocean. How romantic right? lol It was such a breathtaking view. No joke, I wasn't even talking and you guys know how much I like to talk. We got to see dolphins jumping out of the water too! I think the highlight of our adventure was this little guy! Named him Phillip! Doesn't he look like a Phillip?? Totally named him! He kept coming around us. If Bob sends me some of her pics of him I will add them to this post. We (Bob and I) were very upset having to walk away from Phillip. He was just too cute and friendly!

Here's one of the sunset photos.

We were going to stay at the reserve til 9 or 10 but turns out the reserve closes at sunset. We traced our way back and waited for the bus. I was really hungry so I was thrilled to see the bus that would take me back to campus for my dinner! Took one step on the bus and my mood did a 180. It was the creepiest, grossest, smelliest bus ever! Have you seen the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter movie? The Knight Bus with the talking head came into my mind. There were creepy people that looked like they haven't showered in ages, the windows were clouded up (not from temperature but from who knows what), it smelled like I can't even think of what it smelled similar to. Bob opened the window and I was so relieved to get a whiff of fresh air. I thought I was going to die on that bus! We got to our stop and I dashed off that bus! No joke! Left Bob behind lol she was like dang because I got off so fast.

What a Friday. I told her the next time we go that we should go on the beach trail for sure!

My Bowl :O

Morning,

So yesterday had its ups and downs. I got up early thanks to Schatzi giving me a wake up call. Did my laundry, Got a lot of reading done. Later in the afternoon when Schatzi left I noticed bumps on my cheeks. I have never (or atleast I don't recall) had a reaction from a face product before. Or atleast not like this . . . Probably could be waaaaay worse, but thank goodness it isn't. I washed my face with oatmeal and felt a tad bit better. I just hope it goes away soon.

Was using the microwave when it happened. I saw my bowl (my $2.99 bowl from Ross) falling in slow motion. Nothing was in the bowl though so I guess that's good. Have I ever broken a dish before? I don't think I have so I am documenting this as my first time! After it broke I kind of stood there in dismay. I couldn't believe the bowl that was supposed to last me through college and have a special spot in my own place was broken. I knew I had to do a good job cleaning up so I grabbed a bag and carefully picked up the pieces.

Apparently not carefully enough though. One of the pieces sliced the knuckle on my middle finger. I can't stand paper cuts and that is what it looked similar to. This cut was a bit wider than a paper cut though. I finished picking up as many pieces as I could then vacuumed up the shards. The cut stung every time my finger bent. Wrapped a band aid round my finger and went on with my evening. I found that the band aid wasn't good enough. My finger still bent when I was typing so I made myself a splint. Yes, I know that you all think I be crazy, but it worked. No pain! As of right now my cut is healing rather nicely and I think it was all thanks to the splint. It kept the skin together and gave it time to heal. Doesn't make losing my precious bowl okay, but it'll do.

Long week ahead.

Sharpie Tattoos

Afternoon,
The other night Bob found some post online about temporary tattoos. It said to use Sharpies then cover with Baby Powder and spray with hairspray. Claimed it would last up to a month. Soooo technically they were right because it lasted, just deffinetly not to a month or even two days for that matter. Remember Leel (from Sacrifice post)? She is a very talented young artist. Bob and I searched up some pictures online. Bob found Ariel from The Little Mermaid and I chose the rose from Beauty and the Beast. I think she did an amazing job with both! The next day a guy walked past me then turned back to say he liked my tattoo. I think that made my morning for sure!

Bob tried to trick her family into thinking it was a real tattoo, but didn't work as she wanted it to . . .
I guess I will just live with drawing tattoos till I get a real one. Mom said I won't get one because I can't take that much pain lol she's probably right too!

Off to dinner with Bob!

Just One Of Those Days

Morning (technically),

Sooooo long story short, Bob and I left 12 minutes into MMW lecture. We headed over to Pines to grab some grub. The line for the chicken or noodles is always crazy long! This time it took us 15ish minutes to get through the line. They first weigh the chicken.
Then into the pan with some oil. Let it go for a few then add the sauce! She was doing three at a time and I was worried that mine would burn. Do you like the taste of burnt chicken? Some people find the hint of burntness to be tasty, but I just can't enjoy the taste.
The finished product! Did not meet my high expectations, but hey it IS from the dining hall. I did fully enjoy the rice though. If you know me, I am not that Asian, yet I will admit I love my random indulgences of rice >.<
Sorry if this post sounded odd, I feel a bit off.

Nite!

Bird Beast or Fish? ^.^

Afternoon,

So on Sunday Schatzi and I went to UTC for lunch. Went to Red Robin so he could get the root beer float he had been craving for days. I was suppossed to steal some of his, but I just wasn't feelin it. So look what I got today! Not the best ice cream to go for the drink, but Cherry Garcia is one of my favs! It seems like I get my act together and do well dieting and exercising. Then some sort of issue comes along and ruins the progress (or I have yet to learn to be strong enough to fight it).

After my discussion I changed to some pjs and made a mini root beer float. What do you guys think the ice cream looks like? Dory thinks it looks like a fish. Sarah thinks it looks like Bruce. I think it could totally be Bruce (from Finding Nemo) or a polar bear.  Leave your ideas in the comments below!

BTW the title is in reference to my mom. Well technically her teacher? Regardless, can hear her voice in my head. Love you mom.

Paper Spatula?

Rise and Shine!

Bob wanted to bake some of her cookies so I packed up my stuff and lugged it down the stairs (fire alarm went off the other day so the elevator still isn't working). Her mom packed her some sort of mocha drink so she offered me some. Not bad to be honest. Just add some milk and ice cubes! Remember the special Valentine's Day flowers from Schatzi? Well, I like to see em so I took a rose down with me. Not sure why, but flowers just make me so happy!

Thought my essay was just a big jumbled up pile of poopoo, but then Bob read it and made some sense of it. I realize now how hard it is to make up your own essay prompt then stick to it. I will say I changed my question maybe three times. Still not 100% sure on how to word the question, but doesn't matter that much since we don't have to turn in the actual question itself.

Sooooo being in college we have to adapt and use our brains to make the best of what we have. I'm talking about the lack of kitchen tools. I bought a cookie sheet last week along with some tin foil. Bob used both for her cookies then when it was almost time to take out the first batch we realized we didn't have any tool to get the cookies off the sheet. That's when I thought of using paper. Yes, paper! Folded it up a few times and ba da bing it worked!

The sheet is on the smaller side so we could only fit six cookies at a time. When we were ready to place the last set on the sheet, Bob came up with the idea of making a giant cookie. Look at her masterpieces! A few came out a bit crunchier than we wanted, but overall they aren't bad.

Now that my brain has had a bit of a break from MMW, I need to write my conclusion and get to bed!

First Valentine's Day In College

Evening Everyone!

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!!

Remember how Bob and I went to Wallgreens last weekend? Well we got Valentine's to hand out! I chose Phineas and Ferb ones, Bob got Harry Potter ones. At the time of purchase we thought it would be a good idea to hand them out to random people. The day before is when we started to reconsider. I sat on the common room floor and wrote out the cards.

Wasn't sure what to write at first, but figured ALG is me so why not. Later in math class Bob wrote my blog url on the bottom of the cards. Bob wrote pickup lines on the to portion and Bob on the from portion of the cards. She put so much effort into hers though. I helped her put the stickers into the slots on each card, then taped a chocolate to each, and finally a heart sticker to close em. Crazy right? Hope the people that found her cards were happy. Neither of us were courageous enough to physically hand em out to people so she taped her cards to desks and I put mine on bathroom mirrors and such.

I didn't have a ton of time, but this past week I wanted to do my nails. You guys know how I often only paint one hand? Well I did it again! This is the first time I filed them into points though.

As some girls do, I was debating on what to wear. The week leading up to the day I was contemplating a dress, then the weather got cold. I am a huge fan of thrifting and found a hoodie for $3 to wear for V Day. Then the day before V Day turned out to be hot so I went back to the dress idea. I don't like to wear tops that show my back so I had to find something somewhat stylish to wear over it. Got this Forever 21 white vest for $5 and tied it instead of buttoning it up. I think it turned out pretty cute on. The shoes I got on sale at Payless many months back, and the dress (which my mom had to convince me to get) is from Khol's. Schatzi just told me he didn't recognize me. You guys know how my go to outfit is jeans, slipper and a hoodie? Well turns out that's what he was expecting to see lol and I ended up getting all dressed up with my hair half did and a bit of makeup to top it off.

Since I couldn't go home for the weekend, my mom and grandma mailed me Valentine's Day gifts. Grandma sent a nice card along with some foodies to share. My mom got me foodies, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, window decals, and soft pj pants (which I am currently wearing)! Also scarfed down one of the chestnut baggies . . .

Thursday night I met a friend at Price Center just to talk. He told me bout stuff going on in his life and then we chatted about school stuffs while I drank my mango snow bubble with boba and star shaped mango jellies. Since it was late he walked me back to the dorm, stopped at Goodie's on the way. It's cute, he texted me "Also since it comes once a year, I want to give you something. Nothing too much but just a friendly happy valentines day chocolate." Then Friday we met up real quick so he could give me my chocolate. Like the sparkles on the box and the chocolates weren't bad.

I had a few options for V Day, and in the end I chose to go to Schatzi's apartment (oh by the way Schatzi is the nickname for my friend from the Balboa post). My family and I used to have a special Valentine's Day dinner of heart shaped pizza, ravioli, salad, and cheesecake. So since I wasn't home I thought I would incorporate at least a heart shaped something into my dinner. That's the result! Heart shaped rice with veggie curry sauce.

It's not surprising that I did some homework right? But since it wasn't just any day I stopped homework at 7 pm. Schatzi went to shower and told me to answer the door if it rang. I knew he was having something delivered for me, but wasn't sure what to expect. He got out of the shower ten minutes or so before the door rang. Yup, those are the flowers he had delivered. Aren't they beautiful? He didn't plan his showering right lol I realized that this is the first time I have been given a bouquet of roses! The first time and not just a dozen! He was telling me he was wanting to get blueish purple roses instead because he knows I am not fond of the color red, but we both agreed that red are more romantic in feel.

He gets the feeling that I don't like them, but I do. Before going to his house I specifically told him NO gifts or anything. He's told me before that he doesn't celebrate it and it's not a real holiday. He says that he doesn't need it to be a day specifically marked to give flowers or gifts. If he wants to do it, he will do it when he wants. Which is cool, different way of thinking than what I've heard. This is the note that was attached to the flowers. He likes to remind me that I "can't" tell him what to do lol

Did a blog post, then we watched Tangled since it's one of his preferred Disney movies. Plus we were talking about it during the week and one of the songs got stuck in my head! Wana know something? My friend from middle school said Rapunzel reminded him of me. Do you guys see that or is it just him being crazy? I think he was specifically referring to the scene where she is going back and forth about what her mother will think/do about her leaving the tower. Regardless, great movie!

I think I forgot to mention that SJ and I broke up back in December (20). I was supposed to do a post about that as a
way to bring closure to the turn of events, but haven't gotten to it yet. Hope he enjoyed his first V Day being single as much as I did.

Before I end this, I have a message for Schatzi: Thank you for making my Valentine's Day so much fun. I am glad you didn't get me chocolates! The roses made me feel rather special, especially on the way back to my dorm. Looking at them now reminds me of Beauty and the Beast (which just so happens to be one of my favorite Disney movies). Whether you believe me or not, I will say that this is definitely a Valentine's Day I won't forget. Even with my memory >.<
