Evening,
To start off our first full day in San Francisco we had breakfast at a cozy spot down the street, Home Plate. We got served freshly baked scones/biscuits that were really yummy. I was really wanting a waffle for some reason so I got a waffle, chicken apple sausage, and eggs. He was nice enough to give me a piece of bacon. I made a sandwich! Pretty filling and tasty breakfast.
Next we were off to the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps. They are literally a bunch of steps tiled to create a beautiful community masterpiece. Very impressive in person.
I like to think that I am a relatively fit individual, but after climbing these steps and the rest up to the top of the hill I thought otherwise.
I will admit I have to pause a second or two on the way up, but we made it to the top! A bit of a gloomy day, but still has some breathtaking views.
I was freezing my butt off, and he did offer me his jacket, but I was trying to be tough. He scared the crap out of me when he climbed up on this old stump and roots for a photo. You can't tell in the photo, but if he lost his balance or the stump gave way he would have rolled pretty far down the hill.
It was relaxing. Just standing on top of the hill looking out at the city. I needed that time to clear my head and breathe.
Of course I wanted a snack so we walked down a few blocks to this random Asian place. Popcorn chicken and red bean tofu soup. I couldn't help but take a photo of the sign on their door. I had to read it over a few times and giggle a bit before walking into the place.
May seem boring to some, but I enjoyed simply sitting, snacking, and spending time with him away from our daily lives back home.
He was sweet and let me choose what our day would consist of so we were off to the Palace of Fine Arts. It got colder so I took him up on his offer and wore his poofy jacket. The architecture and plants reminded me of Balboa Park. Again, not the most gorgeous of days, but we had fun walking around and taking photos. While walking around we came across some strange Asian women posing for photos caressing parts of plants. Strange right? So I got him to pose with my purse and a plant!
After walking around the place we went across the way a bit to the beach where we could see the Golden Gate Bridge. He also made fun of the way I walked on the sand. I probably looked really odd though, but hey I didn't want sand in my shoes!
For someone that's not used to doing much I made it through the day pretty well. I was ready to knock out for the night around seven . . . but we went back out and did some grocery shopping. Had a drink and some dinner in the room then knocked out.
Looking back, I can't believe we did all that in one day. If you're reading this, thank you for driving us there and in all that crazy traffic! We both know that I would have failed at parallel parking!
